LIBRARY POLICY

CHECK-OUT

Kindergarten students may check out 1 book each week and the book will remain in the classroom.  Students in grade one may check out 2 books each week and may take them home.  Students in grades two through eight may check out up to 3 books at a time and may take them home.  Students who have a total of 6 books checked out (even if they are not overdue) will not be allowed to check out additional books until some are returned.

DUE DATES

All books are checked out for two weeks.  They may be returned sooner if your student has finished; or they may be renewed for an additional two weeks if necessary.  The due date appears on the “Date Due” slip inside the front cover of the book.

OVERDUE NOTICES

Overdue notices are sent home via the Wednesday communication envelope.  They are not a punishment of any kind; they are a reminder to you and your student.  Sometimes others are eagerly waiting to read the book your student has borrowed.  A student who has three or more overdue books will not be allowed to check out additional books until the materials are returned.  If you receive a notice and your child tells you that he/she “never checked out that book,” please be aware that some students, particularly the younger ones, don’t always make a connection between the title of the book and the book itself.  So hear them out, but please look for the book anyway.  It’s amazing how often kids bring me the book that they “never checked out!”

DAMAGED OR LOST BOOKS

Parents will be asked to pay for or replace books that are lost or badly damaged.  You will be billed in May for lost books; but in the meantime, please keep looking.  Lost books have turned up in some very interesting places!

FINAL DUE DATE FOR ALL MATERIALS

All materials are due back in the library on Fri, May 21, 2010.  Bills for unreturned books will be sent in the Wednesday envelope on May 26 and must be paid by Wed, June 2.  If bills are unpaid, report cards and transcripts will be held.

BEHAVIOR

Students in the library will be expected to remember and respect the quiet, studious nature of the library atmosphere.
